Project Lorai: Purbo-Poshchim Campaign (ShareTrip and Give Bangladesh)

ShareTrip Empowers Marginalised Women to Build a Better Future: The Purbo-Poshchim Campaign

ShareTrip

In a world where inclusive development is no longer optional but essential, ShareTrip is stepping forward with meaningful projects that transform lives. Through its partnership with Give Bangladesh, ShareTrip contributes to building a more inclusive future with Project Lorai. It’s a people-centric initiative that has three campaigns, Purbo-Poshchim, Bagh Bidhoba, and Gorbhodharini—all aimed at empowering those at the margins of society.

This initiative is part of ShareTrip’s broader commitment to social responsibility. It’s a pioneering step in Bangladesh’s travel sector that sets new standards for inclusive growth. At its heart lies one simple but powerful idea: everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

The Purbo-Poschim Campaign: A Second Chance Stitched With Purpose

One of the flagship components of Project Lorai is the Purbo-Poschim program

It is a skill development campaign tailored specifically for floating sex workers seeking to transition to dignified, sustainable livelihoods.

The participants were enrolled in basic sewing training, receiving not only practical skills but also emotional support and tools to rebuild their futures.

Each trainee was provided:

  • A structured curriculum focused on employable tailoring skills
  • Hands-on practice with professional-grade equipment
  • Certification upon completion, increasing formal job eligibility
  • Post-training job placement support in local factories

For many of these women, it was the first time their work was met with validation instead of stigma. This shift from social exclusion to meaningful engagement marks a turning point—not just for individuals, but for society at large.

What is Purbo-Poschim Campaign’s Core Impact?

The Purbo-Poschim Campaign, a transformative initiative under Project Lorai, empowers marginalised women—particularly floating sex workers—by equipping them with vocational sewing skills, emotional support, and pathways to dignified livelihoods.

Through structured training, professional certification, and job placement assistance in local factories, the program not only fosters financial independence but also restores self-worth, turning societal exclusion into meaningful economic participation. Purbo-Poschim creates lasting social impact with inclusive growth, gender equity, and sustainable community development.

This initiative reflects ShareTrip’s commitment to sustainable and socially responsible business practices. By enabling marginalised communities to uplift themselves, the company goes beyond philanthropy—building resilience where it’s needed most.

“After my husband left home one day without a word, my life took a dark turn… with no means to support myself, I was forced into sex work just to survive.”

Akhia, one of the participants of the program, shares her experience that reflects the harsh realities faced by thousands of women in our communities.

“Hope returned when I joined the Purbo-Poshchim campaign.”

Through comprehensive skills training, counseling, and job placement support, the program provided Alia with more than just vocational education – it restored her belief in a better future.

“With my newfound skills, I secured a job at a garment factory and began rebuilding my life.”

Today, Akhia stands as one of the many women who have successfully transitioned to formal employment through this project. Her remarkable progress demonstrates how strategic corporate social investment can break cycles of poverty while strengthening local industries.

Health, Dignity, and Medical Support

What sets the Purbo-Poschim initiative apart is its Health and Well-being Support. Recognising that skill alone isn’t enough, the program also included access to critical health services:

  • HIV screenings
  • Menstrual Health Management (MHM) workshop.
  • Gynecological medical camps during training

By addressing these foundational health needs, Project Lorai ensures that no barrier—social or physical—stands in the way of empowerment.

Continued Support: Beyond Training

The commitment didn’t end at graduation. Team Lorai continued to support each participant with post-placement follow-ups. These check-ins included workplace visits, manager feedback reviews, and efforts to secure better job roles based on performance and progress.

This longitudinal support model is vital. It ensures that impact is not only created, but sustained—a key pillar in social responsibility.

Contributing to Global Goals: SDG Alignment

Project Lorai directly advances the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG GoalProject Lorai’s Contribution
Goal 1: No PovertyCreates livelihood opportunities and reduces financial vulnerability
Goal 5: Gender EqualityEnsures women and third-gender individuals receive equal training and job access
Goal 8: Decent Work & GrowthProvides skill-based employment and connects trainees to formal, structured workplaces

This alignment amplifies ShareTrip’s role as a values-driven organization, taking part in global progress through localised action.

Trusted Partnerships Driving Real Change

Apart from ShareTrip, financial backing also came from the Kamrunnesa Khatun Foundation (KKF), a respected NGO from Dhaka.

This collaborative framework—combining private sector scale with NGO expertise—is what enables real, scalable impact.
