Bangladesh’s largest and leading online travel agent (OTA) ShareTrip celebrated its third anniversary together with its partner and stakeholder organizations through an award ceremony.

Local travel-tech startup ShareTrip has secured an investment of BDT 5 Crore from govt owned VC Startup Bangladesh. The announcement was made during ShareTrip’s third anniversary ​​at the Hotel Sheraton, Dhaka.

ShareTrip, a Bangladesh-based online travel agent, has raised US$500,000 from Startup Bangladesh Limited, a government-sponsored VC firm. The deal pushed the company’s total funding raised to date to around US$7 million.

Travel has become a widespread cultural phenomenon in Bangladesh over the last decade. Go to any tourist destination in the country during a holiday, you’ll be surprised to see the level of social penetration of travel. This effect is particularly pronounced in major cities such as Dhaka during medium to lengthy holidays where residents desert their homes to go to distant places within the country and abroad.

For the sake of context, World Tourism Day is an UN-designated day to celebrate tourism across the world organized by the UN specialized agency for tourism World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This year is the 42nd edition of the day.
